He hung in misery and in pain
To wipe away our sin
Beaten, cursed, smited and maimed
The Messiah that walked among men.
He promised He would arise again
And that promise He solemnly kept
For three days and three sad nights
His dearest loved ones wept.
He laid in a pitch black tomb
As the victor the stone slipped away
Promising He'd always be with us
As He is each and every day
As I look back on what happened there
How He hung in my disgrace
My Lord and Savior Jesus Christ
On that cross He took my place.
As we look back and remember
A sad time it will always be
When Jesus died on that rugged cross
In Calvary for you and me.
